Homes for Sale in North Portland
Although North Portland is only minutes from downtown Portland, it feels a world away. This area contains some of Portland’s most diverse neighborhoods (and some of Portland’s most affordable real estate). It has experienced a considerable upturn in the past few years, and the transition is picking up steam.
Enter North Mississippi Avenue (officially in Northeast Boise neighborhood, but on the north border). Mississippi is a thriving destination with indie shopping and a 1970’s college town feel. It’s a neighborhood in a time warp. A very good time warp—well worth an afternoon-to-evening stroll through the well curated shops and then dinner at one of the many excellent eating establishments.
Another up and coming street in the area is North Williams (officially crossing Northeast Eliot and Northeast Boise neighborhoods, but on the north border), which is a designated bike corridor. I used to wince at the decay when we drove down this street, but today it is host to numerous trendy restaurants and artist-owned shops. I can’t wait to get out of the car and explore them all, culminating with coffee at Either/Or and something delicious at Eem or half a dozen other good choices. And New Seasons Market on the street seals the deal.
If you are young, hip, and on a budget, the Mississippi/Boise neighborhood may ring your bell. There are plenty of homes of a certain vintage that have character but need a little tender loving care.
