Every home buyer has a vision in their head of the kind of home that would put a smile on their face. Sometimes two or three visions. This is where our home buyer’s check list comes in.
When a couple is in the market for a new home, there may be several competing visions to sort out and distill.
That’s where our handy check list comes it. It forces you to choose the features you want most in a home and then asks you to stack rank them. You think it’s easy? Not so fast, grasshopper.
Have you ever considered, for instance, which is more important to you—a professionally landscaped back yard that’s perfect for entertaining or a chef’s kitchen? Not a hard choice?
How about a top-notch school district versus the PERFECT Victorian charmer with cottage garden to match? You’re starting to agonize, right?
What about a separate living area for your teenager versus too small a bedroom for you? Are you sweating yet?
The list goes on. The choices are not always easy. It pays to really think about potential trade-offs BEFORE you begin touring homes with your real estate team (SkyBlue Portland, of course) and be clear in your own mind where your priorities are.
For instance, if you make a firm commitment at the onset to get your teenager the separate space they need, you won’t be tempted to sell her down the river when your dream kitchen is the tradeoff. This process also helps your real estate team focus their home search for you.
We believe in NEIGHBORHOOD FIRST, so will ask a lot of questions about your preferred lifestyle. Your lifestyle should determine your neighborhood. (No matter how much you think you want that charming farmhouse and 20-acre vineyard in Newburg, it probably won’t work with your 60-hour a week job and a 3-hour daily commute to and from downtown Portland.) We then help you choose two or three neighborhoods that map to your lifestyle–with a good selection of homes in your price range–to review and tour.
This is the way you end up with your dream home in your dream neighborhood.
