Before we moved to Portland many Halloween Moons ago, we thought Boston was the best place to be in October. Those hardy, history enchanted New Englanders know how to do Halloween right.
But these days we relish the Halloween Hoopla season in Portland, Oregon and it’s surrounding Metro communities.
And as everyone knows, there’s something in Portland water (or is it the air?) that makes its residents a bit more creative, a bit more original, a bit more prone to the weirdly humorous and the spooky bizarre than most other human beings on this wondrous planet.
Portlanders LOVE Halloween. So every year we lead the PDX Women Who Walk Meetup group through several of our favorite hair raising haunts: namely Portland’s beautiful Laurelhurst, Sunnyside, Richmond, and Buckman neighborhoods.
The residents in these historic neighborhoods pull out all the stops to make Halloween as awesomely frightening as possible. Here’s the Walking Portland: SE Portland Parkway | Laurelhurst, Sunnyside, Richmond, Buckman route, in case you want to trek it on your own.
